Call for proposals

The ASCILITE Australasian Open Education Practice Special Interest Group (OEPSIG) is inviting proposals for an online event titled ‘Locking down, opening up: prioritising equitable access and success in a time of uncertainty.’ Proposals are welcomed from anyone with an interest in sharing their knowledge, experience and even challenges in the open education landscape.

World Access to Higher Education Day is a global day of action focusing on increasing access and participation in higher education for those from low income and other marginalised groups.

The Call for Proposals is now closed. Presenters will be notified in the week beginning October 26.

Theme and topics
The theme of this WAHED event is prioritising equitable access and success in a time of uncertainty. The theme seeks to encourage attendees to consider open education as a potential solution to the many challenges and changes the education sector has faced in 2020, including transitioning to online teaching in response to a global pandemic, and addressing other structural inequities in education.

The intent of this theme is to spark conversation and the sharing of knowledge on ways open education can break down structural inequalities and lead to a more equitable future for all. Suggested proposal topics include, but are not limited to:

Open education trials and triumphs during the COVID-19 pandemic
Critical perspectives on open education
Creative and innovative open educational practices
Open strategies and policies
Building structural equity and inclusion through open education
Advocating for open education
Your own open education journey

We also welcome proposals on other topics relating to open education.

Session types
We are seeking proposals for lightning talks and presentations on current practices, challenges and innovations.

Lightning talks – 10 minutes:
We are seeking proposals for lightning talks of 10 minutes. Lightning talks are short presentations that offer a quick take on a story, case study, idea, or technique.

Presentations – 20 minutes:
We are also seeking proposals for longer presentations of 20 minutes that focus on major practical initiatives in the sector. This may include in-depth cases, projects or programs.

Submission details
Proposals are enthusiastically welcomed from anyone with an interest in sharing about open education. Proposals can be submitted via this f orm, and close on Monday 12 October, 2020 9am AEST. Note it is a general expectation that all presentation materials (slides, content) will be openly licensed. Please indicate the license type on your final slides/materials (see creativecommons.org for license types).
